Feed your body. Change your life.

March 2008
Issue 1
  personal note from darshana

How is your morning practice going? Have you been sharpening your saw? Lately I have included nature walks. Just got back from one. It's beautiful out.

Are you feeling the change of season?
If so, you might notice your taste buds and food desires are changing too. Stay in touch with that feeling.
It IS your guide to eating intuitively.

My intuition has been guiding me to eat a bit more raw, not a lot, but a hint. This week I wanted to share with you my most resent favorite salad. It's so simple.

In JOY,

  recipe of the month

It's not quite the season for salads but if your weather keeps changing like mine is you might be noticing the craving for some "raw" food.
(Of course if you are a raw foodist this is nothing new)

For the rest of us who eat plenty of cooked food eating some raw is good for the body and soul. It helps our digestive enzymes, you feel lighter and salads are super quick. They also make great snacks.

My suggestion is have soup AND salad together.
At least until spring and summer are really here. This will help keep the body warm from the inside out.

This is a salad that I have been eating a lot lately.
It's my version of a salad I used to get at a restaurant called Fritz’s in San Francisco.

In addition to trying out this salad try to replicate a salad you love from your favorite restaurant. It's an easy accomplishment and it will most likely be cheaper too!

Ciao for now…..

SUPER SIMPLE SALAD

1 large bowl of mixed organic greens
macadamia nuts- a handful or two, depending on how big your salad is
sliced avocado
smoked salmon (like lox) **
red onion sliced in quarter moons (optional)

Dressing
Mix together olive oil, maple syrup, balsamic and tamari.
Combine in amounts that fit your desired taste.

Toss all ingredients with dressing and enjoy.

**NOTE: If you don’t eat fish try baked tofu or tempeh

NOTE: If you are taking this salad on the go, mix the dressing and place in a jar. Dress when ready to eat.

"Darshana helped me change my life. It's that simple! When I first came to see Darshana, I was skeptical. I knew I wanted to find a healthier way to live, but I thought she would tell me all the things I couldn't have. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Darshana taught me expansion, not deprivation. She taught me how to make healthier food choices without feeling deprived, how to really connect and listen to my body, the importance of exercise and self care. But most importantly, through her compassionate and caring support, she helped me discover myself. And that is no small thing! I would highly recommend Darshana to anyone. She is an excellent nutritionist and an amazing teacher."
